The Writing Process--Steps for Academic Writing

Do you remember the first time that you sat behind the wheel of your parents' car...excitedly waiting for Mom or Dad to finish the lesson on adjusting the mirrors, checking for obstructions in the window when you look over your shoulder, and always being sure to buckle your seat belt before starting the car?  As with everything in life, these is a process to doing it efficiently and effectively.  While you might be able to combine some of the steps in the process for getting the car ready to move along the road, you still need to go through those steps to produce the best outcome--staying alive (and not getting a ticket) while out driving.

When writing an Academic paper, there are various steps that must be followed as well.  These requirements make sure that your writing is properly crafted, flows smoothly, attracts readers, keeps readers reading, and makes sense.  This is called the Writing Process.  Depending on how you have been trained, you may think the Writing Process has anywhere from 4-6 steps.  No matter how you break down or condense the process, all of the same steps occur and are necessary for a properly crafted and well functioning writing.  Learn more about the different steps in the Writing Process below:
